“Drugs”..yes, indeed a very common topic to be discussed but the youth of today, don’t really seem to be interested in going into the depths and finding out the cons of it.
As per many individuals, drugs make you feel on top of the world. Grown up with the crowd, Cool, Hung over, Special, confident and of course like a rebel. In short, it does different things for different people. Moreover, seen from a teen’s perspective, drugs can appear to have more advantages than disadvantages, otherwise kids wouldn’t be doing drugs.
On the contrary while some teenagers are completely into it, there are such youngsters too who completely understand that the intake of drugs is harmful. Let’s hear it from the youth itself that ultimately why youth take drugs.
Many individuals have different perspective regarding the intake of drugs. One boy of Dehradun states that Drugs is not very harmful if taken in apt ratio.
On the other hand, Aneev Gurung, a 19 year old boy says, “Even I am a teenager, but I must say that today’s youth is actually being spoiled by the intake of the dreadful drugs. It simply takes away one’s life. I fail to understand why youngsters need to take drugs when they very well know that it will kill them.”
“Today’s youth is into drugs because they think that they get Stress relief. They want to simply forget about
their worries and want to escape from their problems rather than showing guts to face them.
On the other hand, the core reality is that today’s youth take drugs just for fun sake, for escaping difficult decisions, being a part of significant group of people and of course to be addicted,” says Aviral Singhal (Heavy weight Champion)
Sachin Shahi (musician) adds, “I personally feel that one takes drugs when an individual feels that he/she is all alone… there is no one to even share one’s feelings with…no one to spare time with…no one to even have a word with…yes, it’s strange..but true. I have observed my friends being involved into this wrath especially when they are heartbroken. But believe me, it doesn’t mean that they are B A D!!!! (smile)
“Despite what most people think, most kids don’t start off taking drugs, because they want to get high they
are motivated by a variety of psychological factors rather than physical ones. They want to have fun, have friends and have the status of being a risk-taker,” says Ravindra Negi (Software Engineer, Noida).
Well, apart from taking a general view on drugs from youngsters, let us have a glance on the harmful effects
of drugs on our mind, body, life, fertility, hopes and dreams:
1. Harmful effects of drugs on mind:
Drug use can cause you to lose your ability to remember things, to think clearly and to study properly. Drug use gives you the impression that you are more alert and aware, but under the influence of drugs you are actually less aware, and less alert.
Drug use can also cause people to act in strange unpredictable ways. A person can undergo a complete personality change when under the influence of drugs. Since drug residues can remain in the body for many years after they were taken, the effect on the mind can last a long time.
2. Harmful effects of drugs on body:
Drug use can make you ill and an overdose can kill. Drugs are poisons after all. The list of diseases you can catch as a result of using drugs is very long and includes Hepatitis C, HIV and AIDS. Since drugs also use up your body’s supply of vitamins and minerals, you become more prone to diseases. Many drug users suffer from malnutrition as a result of their habit.
3. Harmful effects of drugs on your life:
Drug use that seems a “cool” idea in the beginning can turn into a living nightmare that includes accidents, hospitalization, a life of crime, a criminal record, hurting those you love, destroyed relationships, a prison sentence and death. Drug users often lose their enthusiasm for life, give up sports and hobbies etc. in their fixation on the next score for their habit. Taking drugs definitely gives you a new lifestyle to some, but it is the lifestyle of a sad loser with no prospects.
4. Harmful effects of drugs on your love life and fertility.
There are evidences that abuse of drugs can lead to impotence in males. Certainly, abuse of drugs in females can affect unborn children, with the babies of drug addicts far more likely to be underweight and to suffer from birth complications.
The damage that drug use can do to one’s physical appearance is very obvious.
5. Harmful effects of drugs on your hopes and dreams.
Drug addicts, when craving their next fix, often do not care about anything other than the immediate high demanded. All other considerations, every aspect of normal human behavior are ignored in this compulsion. Thus, let’s stick to the lines of Kurt Cobain,
“Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy your memory and your self-respect and everything that goes along with your self-esteem.”
